In
1879 Blauwestadhoeve was built a gentleman-farmstead, as there were
several in the district. An agricultural farm, with vast sheds for the
corn harvests and machinery. Now the farm buildings have survived the
farm's original use. Its economical use in that field dwindled, also
due to new EU rulings. These made economical life for farmers more
difficult.
Its location near the Blauwestad borders, however, made it a
perfect spot for a new economic drive. Nowadays, it is a Dutch
enterprise, housing high quality hospitality, offering a variety of
arrangements, such as B&B, group accommodation, a mini-camping
site, indoor beach sports, outdoor sports, water sports like sailing
and much more.
Blauwestadhoeve is the one and only Bed &
Breakfast in The Netherlands with an All Weather tennis court, having a
professional tennis teacher full time available.
It is
situated in Scheemda, off the A7 highway, on the borders of the
8-square-kilometres Blauwestad water resort, no more than a 900 metres’
walk away from the newly formed lake, rubbing shoulders with the nature
resort and landed estate of Ennemaborgh. A perfect starting point for
biking- and walking tours, while simultaneously offering the
possibility of sailing trips.
A splendid biking trail of
varying distances, from 25 to 65 kilometres runs all through our
wonderful region of scenic beauty. A route map with exhaustive
descriptions is ready for use.
So much for outdoor
activities. The present owners of the farm have done their utmost to
restore it into its old splendour, taking care to retain and repair
original style and detail where possible and re-instate old assets
where they could. The result is a farm with outhouses, which provides
excellent possibilities for conferences, meetings and indoor or
activities of various kinds.
Groningen Oldambt, the Corn-belt of old
of the Netherlands, has developed into an oasis of green rest and quiet
in the middle of its almost endless expanse of large scale Groningen
arable farmland. This glorious nature resort near Winschoten has become
the location of an imposing land/waterscape project under the name of
Blauwestad off the A7, no more than a 20 minutes’ drive from Groningen
City and only 15 minutes away from the German border.
The surrounding countryside
Your
first impression of Oldambt will be one of space and restful quiet.
However, if you were to extend your stay, you would discover that this
neighbourhood has much to offer in the field of active
enjoyment.
For instance, Blauwestadhoeve
has bikes for hire. In the sheds we have built full-grown courts for
playing Beach-tennis, Beach-volleyball, Beach-football,
Beach-badminton, both for children and for adults. And, yes,
trampolines are part of our equipment too. The tennis court is
completely new-built and we proudly feature a professional
tennis-teacher, who is present on call.
Outdoor activities?
Yes of course! You could go for a bicycle tour, a stroll, a walk, a
walking tour.
Art and culture? Well yes,
that too! Discover the galleries and museums and enjoy both their
countryside hospitality and their hidden cultural treasures.
Nature?
Of course! The province’s stimulating natural features are waiting to
be discovered. The age-old beech and oak forests, marshes, swamps and
bogs of the tidal districts are easily accessible by way of footpaths,
wander trails and biking lanes. Resting and picnic places, birdwatching
huts and other facilities will change your trip into a high quality
adventure, an experience of top enjoyment. Indeed, for discovering the
Blauwestad region, either by bike, or by boat, or again, on foot,
Oldambt Blauwestadhoeve has an abundance of choice possibilities to
